How Businesses and Individuals Can Help

Through Pennsylvania鈥檚 Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) programs, PA businesses and individuals can qualify for up to a 90% tax credit of their state tax liability by supporting scholarships for CLS students.

Your partnership does more than fund scholarships. It helps prepare the next generation of skilled, compassionate teachers; expands access to quality education for local children; and strengthens the foundation of a vibrant regional workforce.

What Taxes Can This Credit Offset?

Both individuals and businesses that pay Pennsylvania taxes may qualify for the EITC/OSTC tax credit. Eligible taxes include:

Personal Income Tax (including for shareholders, members, or partners of S-corporations or other pass-through entities)
Corporate Net Income Tax
Malt Beverage Tax
Bank and Trust Company Shares Tax
Insurance Premiums Tax (excluding surplus lines and certain marine policies)
Mutual Thrift Institutions Tax
Title Insurance Company Shares Tax
Retaliatory Fees (under Section 212 of the Insurance Company Law of 1921)

Meeting a Regional Need

Western Pennsylvania faces a pressing challenge: too many families struggle to access high-quality, affordable education, and too many classrooms lack the teachers they need. At the same time, our nation continues to wrestle with a literacy crisis, with two-thirds of fourth and eighth graders reading below proficiency. Carlow responds to these challenges head-on.

At CLS, 40% of students in PreK鈥�8th grade receive financial aid. Last year, 24 students received scholarships funded by EITC or OSTC, with an average award of $5,100. Families count on these dollars to make transformative education possible.
