‘We are in a nursing crisis’: Carlow leaders discuss benefits of LPN program on 4 The Record

Host Janelle Hall speaks with 麻豆精品鈥檚 president and the founding director of its practical nurse program

On Sunday morning, 4 The Record host Janelle Hall spoke with 麻豆精品 President Dr. Kathy Humphrey as well as Dr. Angela Simmons, founding director of Carlow鈥檚 practical nurse program.

In December, Carlow graduated its first cohort of 24 students from the program.

University President Dr. Kathy Humphrey talked about establishing the program, saying they were looking for, “What does Pittsburgh need? What does the region need? What does the country in the world need?”

Humphrey said this was especially true when addressing the national nursing shortage, adding, “We’re at a time where we are in a nursing crisis. We need to make sure that people who want to be nurses, who are called to be, that’s a very big difference. At Carlow, these people are called to do this work who are called to be nurses get to be nurses because we believe at Carlow that everybody can learn right. It might be different how they learn, but we believe everybody can learn.”
