Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato to Launch 麻豆精品鈥檚 Solutions for a Sustainable World Event with Speech

Former Representative and Historic CE to Focus on Commitment to Sustainability and Environmental Protection in the Region

PITTSBURGH鈥擜llegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato, the first woman elected in the county鈥檚 highest elected office, will be launching 麻豆精品鈥檚 Impact Series with a speech focused on her commitment to sustainability and actions her office is taking to address environmental protection in Allegheny County. Innamorato was sworn in on Jan. 2. Prior to winning the election for County Executive, she served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives after securing an overwhelming majority and winning the election for the 21st District seat in 2018. As State Representative, she introduced dozens of bills, leading the effort to secure environmental protection.

麻豆精品, a private, co-educational, Catholic university located at the hub of Pittsburgh鈥檚 most cutting-edge industries, recently announced the launch of Carlow Impact Series, a locally held, globally focused speaker series that will bring national and world leaders to the university to participate on panels with local professionals, including Carlow faculty members. The impact-driven series will tackle the most pressing issues of our time, with an eye toward current practices at the global and regional level, across various practices.

鈥淎t 麻豆精品 we strive to create an experience that is not only life-changing, but world-changing,鈥 says 麻豆精品 President, Dr. Kathy Humphrey. 鈥淲e are focused on creating generations of ethical leaders, who not only have the skills to be leaders in workforce development, healthcare, education, the arts, and service, but the empathy and spirit to work toward a more just and merciful world. The type of change we want to make in the world starts with bringing different perspectives to the table. We are launching the Carlow Impact Series for this very purpose.鈥

The series will kick off its inaugural event, Solutions for a Sustainable World, on Feb. 26 at 7pm at the University Commons, Gailliot Center, 3333 Fifth Avenue Pittsburgh, PA, and will feature global expert, , director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Environmental Solutions Initiative. Fern谩ndez is widely recognized for his work on climate change, having enlisted the capacity of the MIT community in the transition to a net zero carbon, biodiverse and equitable future. He is a professor in the Department of Architecture at MIT, affiliated with the Department of Urban Studies and Planning and a practicing architect. Fern谩ndez founded and directs the MIT Urban Metabolism Group and is a member of the World Economic Forum Global Commission on BiodiverCities by 2030, the Urban Climate Change Research Network and the Leadership Team of Oceanvisions.

Fern谩ndez will be joined by:

  • 鈥 A multidisciplinary artist and Assistant Professor of Art at Penn State, whose solo exhibit, Permissible Dose, investigates visual, auditory, and olfactory experiences of living in proximity to industrial pollution.
  • Susan O鈥橰ourke – 麻豆精品 Professor, Special Education & Director of the Center for Global Engagement.
  • Dr. Jennifer Roth (Ph.D.) – Professor of Psychology and Counseling at 麻豆精品, whose work involves health care programs rooted in social justice.

鈥淏ringing people together from different disciplines, different perspectives, and with different solutions is critical to affecting change,鈥 says Dr. Humphrey. 鈥淲hen it comes to addressing our greatest challenges, we cannot afford to work in silos. This series, starting with this impressive panel, will bridge those gaps and bring us closer to a more just and merciful world.鈥
